One Dead in Tornado in Queens

A deadly 70 miles per hour tornado-like storm devastated Queens late Thursday afternoon that caused countless trees snapped, uprooted and tossed into cars and homes. A woman was killed when a tree toppled on her car on the Grand Central Parkway near Jewel Avenue.

911 boards were swamped with calls of injury but it was still unclear how many motorists were considered serious.

Thousands of households and establishments were without electricity as a result of the storm.
The Long Island Railroad service in west of Jamaica was postponed as trees are lying on the tracks and a power outage hindered NJ Transit service, officials said.

Several frustrated commuters were left at Penn Station, where entrance was constrained as a consequence of the heavy crowds.
